Can a White Girl Use the N-Word? (Racist Rant or Rational)

“I want to talk about ni**ers.” Yup, if you clicked on the video above that’s exactly what that little White girl just said in her four-minute monologue. I have no idea what led to this need for her to break down the difference between ni**ers and Black people, but there you have it.

Now I know that racism exists but to witness the gall of this girl as she tries to rationalize her biased comments is awe-inspiring. Who does she think she is to be an expert on people of color? Clearly she doesn’t hang out with any because, I mean, everything she uses to describe ni**ers is based on stereotypes.

Growing up in a predominantly Black neighborhood, I’ve never come across any women that acted like this girl describes or said things like, “Bitch, some muthafucka just fucked my man… I’m gonna fuck you up, take my earrings off… Oh, there’s my other man that’s gonna fuck you up for me because I am a woman and I have respect for myself.”

Then, this poor disillusioned girl goes off to explain why she calls certain people ni**ers, because they nig and they nag. She goes on to complain about other things that rhyme with nig like wig (to go off about weaves), twigs (so she can rant about how big Black women’s butts are and why they don’t have to flaunt it) and jig (to talk about all the silly dances ni**ers come up with). She also calls out “the big ones” (care about your health) and the ones that talk in slang too much.

The only semi-point she makes is when she asks, What African-American Superman’s that hoe? What proud person from back in the day—when they were brought over from Africa as slaves by the stupid Americans* were like… [simulates Soulja Boy’s patented dance].”

Despite her mass generalizations about people of color, this girls wants to make sure that “before we all bug out” she’s not racist. I agree, she’s just ignorant and naïve or at the very least an equal opportunist racist as she extends her bias across the board to explain how just like there’s ni**ers and Black people, there’s hicks and White people and beaners/Mexican mafia and Mexican people/Hispanics/Latinos.

What the hell is a “beaner?” That’s a new one for me, but I’m sure it’s just as offensive as ni**er. I’m not even Latino and I’m offended just the same.

I’m really at a lost because I don’t even think this girl is trying to be malicious, she just doesn’t know any better. I don’t know if I can blame the parents, the music, or the media, but clearly this girl doesn’t have much interaction with real people of color and is getting all her influence from what she sees/reads out there. Maybe last week’s question about people of color having to work harder to break stereotypes was more needed than we even realized.

We gotta do better.

Are you surprised by this girl’s video rant? How do you feel when you hear people that are not of color use the N-word so freely? Who do you blame for this girl’s view of Black people? Would you consider her racist or extremely naïve? What should her parents do about this? What would you do if your kid posted a racist video online? How much influence do you think the media has on how people perceive other races? Are there any stereotypes that you’ve picked up from the media? How do you feel after watching this video?

Speak your piece…

*NOTE: African slaves were brought over by the stupid Europeans NOT the Americans, which wasn’t even recognized as a nation until somewhere around 1538, sweetheart, although the name first appeared around 1507.

This is why we shouldn’t get rid of the word “retarded”, cuz clearly, this kid sounds EXTREMELY RETARDED. Smdh

    I can't with her...

  • Skye Blue

Wow. I just feel sorry for that girl. One day real soon she and her 'non-racist' behind will seriously regret ever making that video and then uploading onto the internet.

As Quoteman said that video is a good example of the many reasons why words like 'retarded' shouldn't be taken out of the English language.

  • westcoastcutie

I'm a white woman and I find her very offensive. She's an idiot. It seems like someone older and even more ignorant has ranted like that to her and she thought she would be take what they said and make a video.....sad.

  • http://expatjane.blogspot.com/2010/09/motorola-sucks-part-1.html Regina

It is truly sad that in 2010 we have young people who think like this. There is a lot of work that still needs to be done.

    Sigh...

You know what's interesting...if a black person were saying this, I wonder if we'd be having the same conversation...

Are you surprised by this girl’s video rant?

    Nope.

How do you feel when you hear people that are not of color use the N-word so freely?

*shrug* If you want me to be honest, I don't care. We as a black people call each other worse, say worse, and do worse. So until we as a people can come together in agreement, I say, we can't criticize others. #hatemeifyouwanna

Who do you blame for this girl’s view of Black people?

Her surroundings. It would appear that all she sees are the stereotypes.

Would you consider her racist or extremely naïve?

I'm going for naive. I know a lot of people are going to say that she is racist and a lot of people are going to get quite upset. But truthfully, I think she's just naive.

What should her parents do about this?

Take her to meet the President. Lol. #imsoserious

What would you do if your kid posted a racist video online?

My kid wouldn't be posting a racist video online, I'm 90% sure. I say 90 because she has the values system ingrained in her but at the end of the day, you cannot say what someone will or will not do.

How much influence do you think the media has on how people perceive other races?

Sigh. The media isn't the biggest problem in perception. WE are. Unfortunately, stereotypes become stereotypes for a reason, and until we combat the stereotype with more positive portrayals, the media will continue to use stereotypes as fodder for the masses.

Are there any stereotypes that you’ve picked up from the media?

Nope. I'm very open minded and pay attention.

How do you feel after watching this video?

It gave me a laugh, to tell you the truth. Let the ignorant commentary begin...

  • Southern Poise

I'm at work and we don't have streaming video capabilities, so I haven't seen the video. But from you what you described, I would just say she's probably just some ignorant, naive child. Just about as much as our own kids using the N word. It doesn't mean anything to them. I've seen white kids and black kids use them with each other. I remember once in target I heard this two girls talking, one saying to the other "let me tell you what that N***a did, girl...He was supposed to come by and yada....yada....." and then response that N****a did what???.... yada yada" sounding all hood... and I turn around, not to my surprise 2, clearly, 'hood' chicks, but to my surprise one white, one Mexican. I was floored.

The use of the word today by other races has been adapted because of the cross culture phenomenon of Hip-hip. Black youth today don't see it as a threat by any other race. Sure we've adapted the word and like we do anything, instead of letting it keep us down, we uplifted ourselves by using it as a term of endearment. And because of this, it lost it's original meaning. We'd have to go back in time or at least remind our kids of their history and the origin of the word before they understand it's not something that should be used so frequently, if not at all, and definitely not by any other race.

  • Older & Wiser

Anslem, why did you even choose this topic and video? I chose not to click on the video b/c I didn't want to add to the viewership. This woman only did this for attention and you gave it to her, NEXT!!!

  • Starita34

Are you surprised by this girl’s video rant?
I probably shouldn't have been, but I was very surprised by it. It's too effin sad.

How do you feel when you hear people that are not of color use the N-word so freely?
When I was shown this yesterday that was the first thing I said. "Why the hell is this girl so comfortable using the n word?" But I know in my heart why...it's quite obvious that the word and these ideas have surrounded her or she wouldn't be so blase with it...and posting it on the net thinking that just saying "...but I'm not racist" would wipe away all of the racist things she just said.

Who do you blame for this girl’s view of Black people?
Not sure what good blame is going to do, like yesterday's discussion, but her surroundings and parents would have to be at the top of my list.

Would you consider her racist or extremely naïve?
Both! They aren't mutually exclusive. Sure, she gets a lil leeway because she's obviously a child and is obviously spouting other people's words. But this is racism if ever there were racism.

What should her parents do about this?
*editing hateful thoughts* Take a good hard look at themselves and ask themselves if they've done a good job raising a good human being. Take a look at how ugly racism is when it's reflected back at them through their daughter. Take away her effin computer and have a good long talk about consequences of our actions. Take a long vacation outside of the US for two reasons. 1)You're daughter is due for a beat down and 2) she needs to see other cultures obviously. Then seek counseling; to work through the stereotypical brainwashing and to deal with this instant viral fame and all the hate that is coming her way.

What would you do if your kid posted a racist video online?
All the above and a whoopin that they'd never forget. No more computer for a loooong time. I'm not trying to hear I need it for school either. Here's your library card and a typewriter. #dealwithit

How much influence do you think the media has on how people perceive other races?
If they have no interaction with other races - A LOT! If they regularly interact with other races, very little.

Are there any stereotypes that you’ve picked up from the media?
Surely, those are mostly unconscious though right? None that I can list.

How do you feel after watching this video?
Sad. Very, very sad. And angry. And sad.

  • Darling

    First, lmao at the ducks!
Are you surprised by this girl’s video rant? Nope, this chick just watches to much tv. Someone should tell her white folks where weave also. She needs to watch Bad Girls Club....all kinds of bad weave in that show, lol. I saw that stupid show yesterday. Anyone notice that she is insecure about her looks? She wouldn't have mentioned the butts and hte weave otherwise. How do you feel when you hear people that are not of color use the N-word so freely? I hate when we use it for other than describing ignorant behavior. There is a definite definition of a nigger it means something different than it used to. Nigga means ignorant and foolish...example: the gang members in the post from yesterday. Who do you blame for this girl’s view of Black people? Her parents and television. Would you consider her racist or extremely naïve? Both, put this chick in one of the gang ridden neighborhoods or one of the poorer neighborhoods and see what happens. What should her parents do about this?Monitor her pc and slap her around a little. What would you do if your kid posted a racist video online? Give her a reality check and punish her. How much influence do you think the media has on how people perceive other races? Alot, too many people believe what they see on tv. Are there any stereotypes that you’ve picked up from the media? None that I haven't seen in real life. How do you feel after watching this video? I felt like slapping her to the ground and dragging her along the ground.

WoW, it seems to me that movies tend to depict us in this manner. Film seems to exploit stereotypes that don't make up our majority. Black comedic film makers need to steer away from this. This girl clearly has not made friends with real people of color. Are there some that act like she has described? I'm sure but I doubt they live by her. "Colored people" we are being misrepresented. We need to make that our biggest concern rather than defending who has the right to use the word n*gga. We need to be like look, the real issue here is that we as a people feel disrespected for being treated as 3rd class citizens. I had my hair braided on the weekend and a white man who thought he meant well shared with me that it was time for me to grow up if I wanted to ever be taken seriously and to go to school. I have my masters degree and audit goverment contracts. My thoughts were, was he being a racist? But I could tell he clearly was not. He has just become accustomed to seeing us in a 3rd class manner. He assumed that I was not educated because of the way I looked instead of asking me what I do. We need to speak out about the real issues that effect our community instead of letting white america dictate what we should fight for. They have had us stuck on fighting for the n-word for so long that we've forgotten that we need to be fighting for our rightful place in society, academic settings, and key jobs.

  • Shannon

Well, most white people who are self-identified as experts on black people and history are more often than not the ones who never encounter black people in the course of their day. I meet people like this all the time who proceed to tell ME about black people and have the nerve to tell me I don't know anything about black people or black history. And most of what they tell me is a bunch of stereotypes, like the time I was in a meeting and one of the executive managers made the comment, "Black people love the color red." I asked him, "What are you basing that on?" and he looked around--it took him awhile--until he found a black woman wearing a red blouse and said, "There!" and sat back with a self-satisfied smirk with his arms folded across his chest. I said, "You can't take one incident and apply it across the board like that. Not all black people like the color red, because I am black and I don't like red." He had the nerve to say, "Well, you aren't really informed about black people, so your response doesn't surprise me." I stood there for a minute and I asked him, "Does that mean you are a serial killer? Are you a pedophile?" He got furious. "Of course I'm not; what the hell made you ask me that?!" he shouted. "Well, Ted Bundy, John Gacy, Greenway River Killer, David Berkowitz, Jeffrey Dahmer, Joseph Paul Franklin, and Dennis Rader were serial killers and pedophiles, so that means you do it too." Boy, was he hot when I said that. "You can't take the actions of some people and put it on everyone, Shannon, Jesus," he shouted. I replied, "But you just the same thing with the whole black-people-love-red bit. It's six of one and half a dozen of the other." He was speechless. I continued. "You really need to understand that just like white people, blacks are not a monolithic group of people. We don't all look, act and think the same. Everyone is different within the group, just like whites and Latinos and every other group of people." With that, I turned and left, leaving him to think about what I'd said.

My biggest complaint about white people is they never look at the bad side of the equation; it's like whites don't ever do any wrong and if by chance one does, that's not the norm; that's just an exception, but when something happens in other groups, that means everyone in the group is like that and it's normal for them. I've even been in classes with white students who were majoring in black studies and totally would blow me off when I told them something in the book was wasn't true. Like for instance, not all black people eat pork, not all black people grew up poor or in the ghetto, not all black people like to smoke menthol cigarettes and not all black people are lazy and living a life of crime and Obama and Juan Williams and Eric Holder--to name a few--are not exceptions to the rule for blacks and being biracial does not make it better for blacks because it certainly hasn't worked out well for me. In fact, it's harder because I'm riding the fence, so to speak, and can't be for one side without turning on the other. But they would rather remain mired in their "educated ignorance" about black people and hold on to their negative thoughts lest they have no thoughts left.

She is just young and ignorant. I don't put too much store into her rant because it is baseless.

  • http://nwso.net NWSO

Because it's something I feel we should discuss and when I watched it it moved me to write. I figured that's what you folks like about me. Besides, the video is there for your own discretion to watch or not, just as yesterday there were links to the gang beatings. I describe enough for you all to get a sense of what is in footage, but give you your own choice to watch or not.

Also, the video is from a different site that uploaded it not her personal youtube/site so I doubt she's getting any of that traffic just the hate mail.

  • Mellow

Good for you Shannon. That was strong.

  • Candace

Am I suprised by the girl's video rant? No I'm sure you can a find plenty of those on youtube. Sometimes I read the comments on documentaries I watch on Youtube an there are a LOT of stupid people using internet. Ignorants are in heaven on internet. It gives them a place where they can rant with relative anonymity and usually no repercussions.

Use of the N**** word: I would say that I think even the black people using it is disturbing. You have a word that was used for decades to insult and degrade us and now it's fine, it's supposed to be okay if "another black use it" or "a white friend use it" or "a non-black who grew up in a black neighboughood"...bla bla bla....if needed just invent a new word. This one is not okay...that goes without saying from a white person it's an ABSOLUTE NO NO

She is both naive and stupid and racist. I think it would be difficult for any child to have these kinds of opinions if her parents were not bigots. So I think they are probably part of the problem. What should they do? If they disapprove? Register her in a shcool in a black neighborhood LoL

Well it's rather difficult to imagine that my child would be a racist. Racism comes from ignorance and lack of contact with other communities. I would allow none of those in my house (to the best of my abilities obviously). As a parent it's my duty to inform, educate my children on my cultures as well as others.

As for posting the video online? I would have him/her do an apologizing video-response explaining how he/she understand that previous comments where stupid and ingnorant and hurtful and post it as well.

I think medias have a great influence on how people perceive the world, other races, politics, relationships.....EVERYTHING! I picked a lot of stereotypes from the media but I try to exercice awareness and not to make them mine. I see them in every show, TV series, movies, flash news..

Funny, last week I realised that the only black woman character in a new show (Nikita I think) is loud, aggressive and promiscious if some are watching these kind of subtil inuendos, plus maury and other silly shows all day, everyday do you really think they won't be influenced?

As for the media, actually they can even influence the way you see your own melanin-group! If your only source of information is TV most black people in the US are drug dealers, violent and promiscious. Most african are hungry, waring and dying, most muslim are terrorist and/or wife beaters..... Are these images accurate? LoooL Isn't that crazy?

It's becoming more and more of a problem as people read less and less so they are counting on CNN, ABC, FOX and NBC not to mention BET LooooL to give them accurate informations on everything..well good luck...

How do I feel? Indifferent, annoyed? Being stupid is such a popular hobby...SMH

  • Rastaman

Isn't racism an expression of ignorance?
Plus ignorance is the new black for white women this year, i.e. Sarah Palin and Christine O'Donnell

This whole event is just another indication of the society’s slippery slide to IDIOCRACY. The one thing about children like this young lady is that they are the best source of information for what is occurring in their homes and their environment. They are not yet savvy enough to be able to camouflage their prejudices into terms like "real American" or "take our country back".

Viral video on the internet has unfortunately given everyone a virtual soapbox from which they feel they can now legitimize every stupid thought that comes to their mind. I am really glad this did not exist when I was much younger, I had a lot of unfounded opinions too and I might have foolishly recorded them for posterity and open myself up to ridicule. Our kids are going to do a lot of stupid things we can only hope it never rises to the level of behavior for which they will have lifelong regrets. There is an old saying that "no one knows you are stupid until you open your mouth."
No better example of that than this whole episode.

I don't use the word but I have to say I am probably immune to its effect by now. Plus even directed at me I don't believe it would be really hurtful but I would probably just take the opportunity to bust somebody’s ass.
The media thrives on stereotypes because it is so much more difficult to define individuals in contrast to defining groups. I think we are all influenced by stereotyping to a degree and I am not sure if there is much the individual can do to combat it. Programming is about selling products by drawing an audience with an appealing tale. In order to achieve that goal you have to appeal to the mass of that audience by drawing on shared beliefs. Racial, gender, ethnic stereotypes all make that easier to accomplish.

  • ChiChi

Didn't Chris Rock make a joke similar to this?

  • http://primarythoughts.net Melanie

Love it... had similar convos on more than one occasion with people in the workforce and members of my own family no less.

And I won't say that it's harder... being biracial, but it is a different kind of hard. When I was younger, I claimed Me-Phi-Me... I refused either race, because I had encountered so much negativity from both of my dominate races.

At one point, I took a negative position and basically said f*ck all yall - yall all ignorant and I refused to claim any race. I would listen to the bs and mentally smfh at the ignorance or racist comments (from both blacks and whites). Sometimes I would speak out, sometimes I wouldn't. I don't think people with one dominate race grasp what it feels like to defend multiple races only to be discounted by both.

But I matured and over time my peers changed and matured, so views changed. I recognized that the folks I had issue with were usually those people who bought into the stereotypes - whether they were acting out the stereotype in order to prove their blackness and reject mine or claiming something stupid like all blacks liked red.

  • http://primarythoughts.net Melanie

The optimist in me: I'm not going to listen to her video, but maybe someone with worse views than hers will happen upon the video and experience positive growth because of it (although it's clear that most here do not agree with her opinions, I'm sure there are worse). Maybe some days/weeks/months will go by and then maybe this person with worse views will find this post on NWSO. Maybe bit by bit it they would begin to understand the definition of the word stereotype and their views would change.

  • Cat

Ok....WOW!! As a white female, this makes me scream, how can someone be so ignorant! I am from the south, I understand that there are all types of racism, I have dealt with it myself...but it has always been from older people, not people in the younger generation...obviously her parents are to blame, they need to educate their child and take her computer away before she hurts herself or gets hurt for what she is saying. It is people like her who give people like me a bad name, and I do not appreciate that! Why can't we all just get along and see each other as people, not colors?

  • http://www.jobsfornaija.com jumoke

she is an idiot for saying that

  • bogart4017

This girl has clearly been listening to older people sprout this madness--i can tell by the term "beaner" (its older than all of us put together).
You can put the blame on her parents or older siblings but one scan of WTBS or BET or any other station that carries these 30 minutes minstrel show they call sitcoms and you'll see where she fills in the blanks and colors inside the lines.

  • http://randomnycsarcasm.com KrishnaD

When I first started listening I was upset but by the end I realized that ignorance is no reason to get angry. Here we have a young white girl ranting about what she deems what is a Ni99er, and though she makes a point to say there is a difference in Black people and Ni99er she uses the reference of bog butts and skinny legs, a common stereotype of ALL Black women. She references African American Pop culture in the background music and the Souljah boy example. Clearly her only exposure to the African America community is from the media. And unfortunately with the ready access to sites like youtube you can just say whatever you want no matter who gets offended.

  • litabia

Hey if that's how she feel that how she feel...most white people are deceptive about their views and she isn't. Not saying its right but hey we all use generalizations of groups of people at some time in our lives.

  • terri

I blame her for her ignorance because she could do something about that. She can get to know some black people.

  • Womanofyr

She knows she a racist. Anyone with half a brain, know not to use the n word. Even the black folks know it's awful.

  • Womanofyr

    Correction.

Even the black folks who use the n word, know it's a racist term.

  • Starita34

Just like I said yesterday - I appreciate ya for it. Not everyday can be Wet Wednesday (or can it, cause I wouldn't be mad at ya *bats eyelashes*)

  • R.e.D

I actually clicked on the link and really I would have to agree with this point that you made: We would not even have this convo if she was black.
We live in a politically correct/PC society and so we think she is racist, but is she? Like someone stated earlier, Chris Rock did an entire commentary on niggers vs black people and he hit the nail right on the head.

The 'problem' with most of us here at NWSO is that we are educated and like to act as though ALL black folks are calm, rational, classy people. NWSO, I need you to go to the hood ( or just anywhere really)one day, literally, and let me know if you don't meet chicks like this. Sometimes I feel as though you are just plain unrealistic. There ARE black ppl-many of them- that are like this. Just like your point about infidelity. Even though you don't cheat, at least half of boys do (don't know them, but it is just a matter of stats).

Let's not front, we ALL know ghetto black ppl, just like this girl described. We just choose to distance ourselves from them. Now, I don't consider myself better than anyone, but honestly, I cannot tolerate ghetto people. I am not talking about people that live in the hood or poor people- b/c I grew up quite poor- but just vulgar, loud, classless folks.

And lastly, these ppl in no way should only be limited to us as a race, but it just happens that we are talking specifically about us.

  • knighthonor

Hey White Girl may be right.

But I rather be arounnd Bitchy Niggas, than a Crazy ass Cracker thats ready to Shoot up a School or Mall whenever they get mad about something. So it goes both ways.

  • http://nwso.net/ NWSO

Leave it to R.E.D. to try and pull my little all card.

I misspoke/wrote and you took away the wrong point from that part. Of course I know certain types of people exist and I've seen them during my daily travels but what I meant to say is that I don't KNOW any folks who act like that personally. If I do/did, like you said I distanced myself from them cause that's not my lifestyle.

As for the hood part, like I said/wrote yesterday I'm on the fringe of Crip territory. In fact, three Crip tags are on my corner and the little knucklehead kids are hustlin' on the opposite corner according to my nosy old lady neighbors.

Oh, and that bodega owner that got shot in the head last Saturday is the store right up the block from my mom's house. We can see good ol "Lucky Grocery" from the driveway. And Jam Master Jay got murdered around the corner and down the block from where I used to live. So I can clearly find trouble and problems if I was really looking for them but forgive me for trying to dodge all that BS.

  • Lyndon

Man, you did not say "Cracker ass Cracker"? LMAO!!

I think I'd rather be around a C.A.C. Niggas are toxic!! They can ruin your whole day. I got a family full of em. Only call when they want somethin and dont answer when they owe.

  • da ThRONe

Question who really cares. Like there aren't a ton of ignorant black people that believe stereotypes about white people. She is entitled to her opinions and some black people are niggas. Once again we get too bent out shape over silly stuff.

Im on my phone and so I haven't seen the video, but I don't need to. People will do and/or say dumb things. I hate the fact people want to sensor people. Let her talk that shit smart people know better.

  • da ThRONe

Its just words. Time change things. The way the word gets tossed by black people(me included) around I can understand how a young white person could not understand how hateful the word has been in the past. But who cares. Im just happy ignorant white people can't just harm black people and get away with it.

Words only have the power you give them. The word nigger or niggas or how every it spelled doesn't bother me no matter who's mouth it comes out of. Im grown and smart why would I let some strange person ignorance effect me?

  • R.e.D

OK Sir, just wanted to be clear that there are ppl like this.
And no one can blame you for trying to stay away from such foolishness..

On an observation note: You realize that your writing has changed? Not the style, just the content. You rarely talk about your life or tell 'stories' anymore- (your father, your past experiences etc.) Perhaps, it's just not our business-it kinda never was, so it is ok not to talk about it. Either way you write, I like to read this blog, but it is just something I've noticed and decided to comment on.

  • Starita34

He's definitely changed immensely. I just like to imagine that it's a positive change for his life and enjoy what he gives us.

  • http://nwso.net/ NWSO

Sorry, stories are way more time consuming. When I was broke and unemployed I had nothing but free time to craft those stories for you, but now that I'm broke and employed (lol) with a more demanding 9-to-5 it's tough to tell the stories the way I want to. Plus, I've learned people have short attention spans and aren't always trying to read my multi-part epics. I'd much rather save those for the book(s).

As for personal stuff like father etc, as with everything it's all about inspiration. I can't just write to write, I have to feel what I'm writing about otherwise it's not a proper use of my creative energy.

And I'd like to think I've grown with the writing covering much bigger issues (with a few frivolous things when the mood hits). But there's only one me and never enough hours in the day.

Is my interview over yet so I can finish editing Wet Wednesdays for you? Huh, R.E.D.? LOL

  • Older & Wiser

Thanks for clarifying that her numbers weren't going up b/c of this post.

I like the idea of extinguishing stupidity by not dignifying it with a response, thus my focus on NOT giving her anymore press or attention to her opinion.

  • Older & Wiser

LOL at your preferences, I literally laughed out loud and couldn't stop! It sounds like a joke a comedienne would say! SMH while still LOL!

  • journeytowifey

nope not surprised, she probably lost a bet or entered a contest, we're helping her win

  • Chanel

He may not have thought it was racist, but I thought it was racist as hell. I don't make excuses for people like that. I don't care what he's "accustomed to seeing." He made an assumption based on a derogatory stereotype -- an almost textbook definition of prejudice.

  • Chanel

I find it really sad that you think that.

  • C SHADE

IDK EVEN THO IT IS IGNORANT , SHE MAKES SOME VALID POINTS DONT TRIP CUZ I AM BLACK BUT I DO AGREE THE WAY WE ACT AS A PPL (YES I KNW NOT ALL OF US) DISRESPECTS OUR ANCESTORS AND PROTRAYS THE IMAGE OTHERS HAVE OF US . I DONT CARE WAT U SAY U KNW U KNW PPL WHO ACT LIKE THEW GIRL SHE ACTED OUT . SHE MAY NOT HAVE ALL THE LINGO RITE BUT SHE CLOSE TO BEING ON POINT. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST WAT U MAD ABOUT WHEN SHE SAQY NIGGER DO WE NOT CALL EACH OTHER THAT ALL THE TIME HUH. WHO GAVE OUT VIP PASSES TO SAY THE WORD NIGGER I AINT HEAR ABOUT IT! • Jessica

Ummm. first off sweetie let me school you a little bit ok, first off look up that word in the dictionary, it means an IGNORANT person {you}, or it is a racial slang that originated in the south {spelled with er} now in todays world it went from {er} to ga meanin homie or homeboy, ok just to school u a little bit and im pretty sure that some people agree with you, and ALOT of people DISAGREE like me for example because of the fact that yea im white but who r u to talk about another race or someone else cause sweetie let me be the first to say to you that yea im not perfect and im not the most pretty person in this world but ALOT of other people can always pick out flaws about you and bash you so next time u need to be careful in what u say.

  • menluvmysmile

So it is excuseable to be ignorant then so long as you speak your mind?

  • http://lyndondavidjones.blogspot.com Lyndon

The bottom line is the girl has the right to speak her mind. I was not offended at all. I have friends and family that fit the description. I'm not afraid to stand in the crossfire and admit that black folks do dumb shit. Say dumb shit. Value dumb shit. And prioritize dumb shit.

The girl said what she felt, and believe or not many black folks feel the same way, just won't say it out loud for other whites to hear. She said nothing worth excusng unless, personal offense was taken. Im aware of the truth, so I heard nothing I haven't said myself or other black people say privately.

  • http://lyndondavidjones.blogspot.com Lyndon

And just how many rap songs do you excuse on a daily basis? How many r&b songs have you ever found offensive? We say ignorant things ALL the time and profit from it.

  • http://strokeofprose.com Kaye Michele

Oh thank GOD someone else said it.

Some of us (black people) are the WORST racist offenders. We just don't see it as racist when we do it. Smh.

  • R.e.D

OK, that's understandable. I wasn't complaining, just taking note. I guess I will have to wait on the book. Hope writing is going well.

Strange enough though, I would think personal stories take LESS time to craft b/c it just flows, rather then actively sitting to writing a piece about a big issue. Anyway, I get what you are saying.

    Interview is over....for now.....

  • http://nwso.net/ NWSO

    @R.E.D. below VVVV

Nope, not for me at least. Recounting dialogue and setting scenes is very detailed oriented and meticulous work when you respect the craft of it. But a free flowing stream of consciousness on a specific topic that you're inspired by or passionate about just comes.

Again, that's just my creative take on writing.

And no worries, just everyone (not saying you) tries to pull a brother in so many directions at once for what they want while not always looking at what I want or need to express or am passionate about in that particular moment. Or, truthfully, what I have time to squeeze out in the midst of a 10 hour work day. Not complaining, just saying.
R.E.D. is always starting with me. Hmmph.

  • Womanofyr

Too bad we feel this way about our people. I wonder this is another sign of the family emotional comforts being broken down. How we gonna repair the black family, hmmm?

  • SweetCree

This is a very ignorant child, and it is sad that she is the product of zero home training!

  • Womanofyr

You know what, I'm going to give the men a little credit on trying to dampen the n word. If that word had it's full power (slavery, rape, hangings, penis trophies, etc.), one would have to kill everyone who said it, or be broken. So it is practical to dampen that word. On the other hand, I still refuse the word, it intimidates me, disrespectful, and I won't put up with it. That is all.

  • smooregamble

Obviously, this white girl is a nigger..ignorant...very ignorant....

  • Wakeup

I have seen several white girls post videos on youtube mocking black girls...A lot of these white girls nowadays are out of control! They are waaaay more crazy than any black girl i have ever seen. There are videos all over the internet of white girls using the "N" word, they mock black girls, they always ranting, they are engaging in all sorts of criminal activity, and their new thing is that they are now running around beating up black girls all the time. These bitches are becoming more and more dangerous to our society every day!

  • Destiny

I didn't watch the video. I don't care for it.

While reading the posts its amazing how a little white girl could say dumb (fill in the expletive), be excused by most. "She's speaking her mind", "some people do act like n******", "why censor the girl"...blah, blah, blah. If you see a young black child, man, or woman, not acting right - how many of you are willing to provide recommendations to them to change their ways- rather then casting them off as n******. Wait, there are excuses for this white girl, but your own are acting like n******. Sometimes we do have to watch out for some of our own. Thanks for demonstrating this. An eye opener.

As for racism, it will be there as long as individuals benefit from it socially, economically, geographically, and politically. Mario Van Peeples(sp?) wanted to do a movie about Malcolm X, long before Spike Lee. He couldn't get any funding for it. John Singleton wanted to do a movie about Martin Luther King Jr. He couldn't get any funding for it. But he was able to get funding for Boyz in da Hood, though. Halle Berry got an Oscar for Monster's Ball. Stereotypes are stratgically placed to elevate some and ritually destroy others. It is not by mistake, but by design. This white girl could be working next to your children some day - maybe as a Teacher or Manager. Regardless of her opinion, she will fair well in society. You try saying the distinction of white people - you will not fair so well. Free speech is not so free. Your life literally depends on it, just ask Malcolm X.

  • Candace

I agree and could not help to notice that Denzel got an oscar for playing a criminal but not for his Malcom X role.
As for Halle Berry, she got one for playing the promiscious wife of a black man in jail.
Anyway I stopped watching the Oscars ...such a silly ceremony.
It's all so cute. Really! Are medias fooling anyone anymore?

  • http://www.mommylonglegs.blogspot.com wynsters the tigress

wow. i'm a serial lurker but i absolutely had to comment after watching this. clearly this girl will regret having made this video. one day, she will wake up and realize how stupid and ignorant and yes, RACIST, she sounds. god help her, and the parents that raised her. gee, glad i'm just a black person and not a n****r.

  • Candace

    Hello folks,

Just sharing with you an article that I found quite interesting regarding the use of the N word. Enjoy.

A Double Standard Worth Keeping: Race and the Differential Power of the “N-Word”

As soon as Oklahoma University’s baseball coach Larry Cochell was fired recently, for using the n-word during off-camera conversations with two ESPN reporters, I knew instinctively what some were likely to say. Though I am far from psychic, it hardly required clairvoyant ability to see what was coming.

Sure enough, the foreseeable dialogue found its way into my local paper, in the form of an editorial by one of Nashville’s most respected sports writers, Joe Biddle. His remarks would mirror several others to be heard on sports radio in the past few days, and appear, from my experience at least, to represent the views of large numbers of whites in America.

As Biddle put it, while Cochell’s choice of words to describe one of his players (ostensibly in a light-hearted manner), was clearly unacceptable and deserving of censure, it was no more offensive than the casual use of the same term by blacks themselves, on the playground or from a stage, as with the comedy of Chris Rock or Richard Pryor (the latter of which has actually stopped using the n-word for more than two decades, unbeknownst, apparently, to Biddle).

In fact, the difference between Rock and Pryor in this regard largely mirrors the divide that exists throughout black America. About half of African Americans, when polled, say the word or it’s derivative (the one that ends with “a” instead of “er”) should never be used, and the other half argues that it can be used among blacks in certain contexts, as an endearment, or a subtle but unhateful dis, or as a way to “reclaim” the term and arguably strip it of its power to injure.

But whether or not some in the black community continue to use the term, there is no reason why whites should audibilize it, ever. That Biddle (and probably most whites) would call this a double standard is irrelevant. Fact is, history has been a double standard too, and it is this history that explains why the n-word is so much more offensive when coming from a white mouth than the mouth of an African American. That most whites don’t know much about the history of racism hardly pardons us: it has been a willed ignorance, after all, and as such can hardly be used as an excuse for the phony claims of equivalence forwarded by Biddle, or any number of white high school students I discuss the subject with each year.

Simply put, the historic use of the n-word in the white community is not one of mixed meaning. It is not a history in which we called our black friends or colleagues such a term, as if it meant little more than “hey there dude, let’s go grab a burger and fries at the Mickey D’s.” In the mouths and hearts of whites, that word has only been used in the context of contempt, of presumed white superiority, of anti-black bigotry.

As such, for any white person to use it today is to force the black person hearing it to immediately wonder what’s behind the comment, what the speaker’s intent really is, in a way they don’t have to sweat as readily when spoken by another black person. History creates a natural and internalized warning bell for any black person hearing a white person use the word, which, if triggered enough can create psychological scars far deeper than most whites could ever fully comprehend.

But to understand the fundamental difference between the white and black use of the word, beyond its historical legacy, consider a similar example.

I am from the South, and frankly, have never much appreciated the word “redneck,” which is so often used against white Southerners, largely because I know it as a slur against working class whites, especially rural folks, whose labor in the sun would cause their necks to become “red.” Though I admit to having used it before, often in fact, I have resolved not to do so in the future because of its derogatory implications, and because, frankly, many in my family, going back generations, would qualify for the designation.

But having said that, I must also note that when Jeff Foxworthy tells twenty minutes of redneck jokes (as in, his “You might be a redneck if…” routine), I have a hard time taking offense. I don’t find the bit particularly funny, as it’s not my comedic cup of tea. But I don’t get pissed. And why? Simple: Jeff Foxworthy is in the family, so to speak. He too is a white Southerner; someone who could be viewed as a redneck; and as such, I can pretty safely assume he isn’t hating on his people or himself. Self-deprecating humor, while it can sometimes straddle the line with self-hatred, generally has a different feel than when someone outside the fold tells the same jokes.

In other words, if Jerry Seinfeld starts telling redneck jokes, we’re gonna have a problem.

It’s the same thing with Jewish jokes. I’m Jewish, as is my father’s father’s side of our family. For generations, Jewish comics have made a living telling jokes about our community. In fact, as a kid, I remember coming across several books of Jewish jokes in my dad’s old room, all of them written by other Jews. And while I didn’t think them very funny (after all, there’s nothing amusing about playing upon stereotypes with such quips as, “Why do Jews have long noses? Because air is free.”), nonetheless, I could assume this humor was emanating from a less toxic place than had it been published in a Klan pamphlet or church bulletin.

It’s sort of like the old playground wisdom that I can talk about my momma, but you had damn well better not do the same. Double standard? Sure. But so what?

That many whites won’t be able to understand this simple point is testimony to nothing so much as our own sense of entitlement. In other words, we are not used to anyone telling us that we can’t do something, or shouldn’t, and as such take great offense when our own freedom, including the freedom to offend, is constrained.

What else can explain the white hysteria over so-called political correctness, which, after all, was really never anything but the desire for folks not to be racist pricks, and to inculcate a norm of civility and respect for persons different from oneself?

I can think of no other reason than the desire to maintain a certain form of white privilege: the privilege of saying whatever we want, whenever we want, and feeling as though our right to lecture others on their behavior should logically take precedence over controlling our own.

In other words, the same privilege that (as the flipside to racism itself), has historically given the n-word its power to injure in the first place. As with all racism, it is power and position that gives a racial slur its ability to injure. This is why slurs against whites like cracker or honky seem more juvenile than truly offensive. And this is why the n-word, spoken by whites, is so fundamentally less acceptable than the same term spoken by blacks, however potentially problematic the latter may be.

Wow, you suck, this shit aint even funny! we should call you nig-nag (because you are rumbling on about shit) you really need to stop, because your voice is annoying as hell plus you are not even allowed to say that so stop publishing your racism for everyone to see who you really are.

  • bill

THIS IS NOTHING BUT THEIR FALLBACK POSITION : if the black folks complain one way and i complain the other let's just divide this shit. i think they are secretly working together to kill me, but they say white people are secretly working to do that to them. but, they don't wanna divide this shit.

instead they wanna make more people that look like the terrorists, so the terrorists can move around in america freely.

these black people all work together across all kinds of boundaries and complain way too much and cover for black people doing fucked up shit to not want to divide this shit.

  • Dlskj

I can guess, without watching the video, that this girl just watch Chris Rock's "Niggers vs. Black people" bit.
It seems that she may have grown up with racist influences in her life, or all she saw of black people was secondhand (in the media, news), and now she's starting to form a different opinion ("they're not all like that").
Of course there are good people and bad people in every race/ethnicity.
Slavery was already established in North America a century before the founding of the US (1776).  Black Americans' ancestors have been in this country since the beginning.  They helped build this country (albeit, through forced labor).  To me, "African-American" is someone like Charlize Theron (born in South Africa, now a US citizen) or Barack Obama's father (born in Kenya, moved to the US).
And no, it's not okay for a white female to use the "N-word."  As a white female, I only say it when I'm singing along to rap in my car (as does every other white person who listens to rap in their car, no matter what they say).
