Does Masturbation Make You Gay? – Naked Radio Show, Episode 0

Seattle pastor Mark Driscoll has caused a bit of controversy with his new book, Porn-Again Christian: A Frank Discussion on Pornography and Masturbation. It’s not just the title but the content as well. According to Driscoll masturbation has the potential to make you gay.

He writes:

“…Masturbation can be a form of homosexuality because it is a sexual act that does not involve a woman. If a man were to masturbate while engaged in other forms of sexual intimacy with his wife then he would not be doing so in a homosexual way. However, any man who does so without his wife in the room is bordering on homosexuality activity, particularly if he’s watching himself in a mirror and being turned on by his own male body.”

Okay, if that wasn’t sexist enough for you, Driscoll says the only loophole in regards to masturbation and not being gay is if a couple engages in the act together or if the man pleasures himself while looking at a picture of his wife.

The first question (among many) I have is what about single folks? Why can’t they get a little self-love of their own? Aside from the fact that it’s a pastor that’s coming up with this theory instead of something more “spiritual,” I give the whole book and concept major side-eye. However, it did make good fodder for my latest venture THE NAKED RADIO SHOW.

That’s right, yours truly is launching his very own online radio show. For the past few months my lovely co-host Amy “Aimstar” Andrieux (accomplished journalist in her own right and founder of Stark, a digital culture brand) have been plotting the official launch of the show, which is finally set for next week, Tuesday November 29, 2011 from 10pm to 12am EST on PNCRadio.fm (and every week thereafter). In our test show, Amy and I discussed Pastor Driscoll’s controversial book and got into a healthy conversation about the taboo topic of masturbation. It’s not something that people tend to talk about honestly but we’re all adults here and like the blog, the radio show is going to be just as raw. We also talked about the frequency of celebrity sex tapes post-Ray J & Kim Kardashian’s infamous tryst and how the hell Tupac Shakur recently released one of his own.

I’m really excited about taking Naked With Socks On to a new platform and bringing the blog to life on a weekly basis—Tuesdays, 10pm-12am EST on PNCRadio.fm.
